How To Adjust Your Marketing For The Fall

If you live in the northeast of the U.S. like me, then you're probably already seeing signs of the changing season! The pumpkin spice lattes have returned, the weather is started to demand longer sleeves, and the leaves on the trees are starting to show more colors!

In other words: it's time to prepare for autumn!

And I'm not just talking about packing up your summer clothes and digging up your denim jeans. I'm also talking about your marketing, and how you should start adjusting it for the Fall.

And if you haven't started yet, it's time to hurry! Autumn in just around the corner. Here is a to do list that you should follow as soon as possible (like, maybe this week).

1. Update Your Social Media Banners

Your social media banners should now feature Fall themes like pumpkins, orange leaves, and acorns. You can also use your more warm brand colors. For us, we'll be switching to using more of our oranges, blacks, and yellows.

When your followers see that you keep up-to-date (or up-to-season) with your banners, then they will feel as thought your business is providing up-to-date products/services. They will also feel as though you care about their experience on your page, and that you want it to feel new and fresh for them.

These are the social media platforms that allow you to adjust your banner:

  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • YouTube

  • Pinterest

  • LinkedIn

Instagram doesn't allow you to have a banner. However, if you have a link in your bio (like link tree or lnk.bio) then you can always update the design there so that people will receive the same positive experiences.

2. Update Your Social Media Templates

Your social media posts should also reflect the changing season! These can either be small adjustments like using different colors OR you can create an entirely new template to use and re-use. Whichever works for your schedule!

3. Mark Autumn Holidays On Your Calendar

Holidays are fun and celebratory. And they receive a ton of engagement when you post about them!

Make sure to mark the big ones and the small ones so you remember to share posts wishing everyone a great day (or sending out an email to your subscribers). Everyone will appreciate your holiday spirit and will feel glad that you took the time out of your busy schedule to give them your best regards.

NOTE: on these posts, it is best not to overdue the sales-y content. Instead, focus on how much you're glad that people chose to follow your account and support your business.

4. Post About Your Fall Products/Services

If you have products or services you put together specifically for Autumn, then now is the time to post about them! Let people know that they exist, and share how excited you are for its release!

5. Show People Ways They Can Enjoy Your Products/Services This Season

When you post about your products and services, show how people can enjoy them for this season specifically!

For example: if you sell used books. Instead of posting a photo of someone reading on a beach, you can show a photo of someone sitting near their window with a hot cup of cocoa!

This makes people feel as though your product/service will be a welcome addition to their new Fall schedule and day-to-day life.
