Answering Your Facebook Business Page Questions

Facebook is a very complex social media platform with many tools and features for its users. This can be wonderful for a business hoping to get its name out there and attract new customers, but it can also be daunting when you're first starting out on it.

This blog answers questions we've both heard and anticipated from small businesses when regarding Business Pages (i.e. something we recommend all of our clients get if they want to use Facebook for their marketing). We hope it clears up some points of confusion!

How Is A Facebook Business Page Different From A Personal Page?

The major differences are the purposes. A business page is created to represent a business, brand, or an organization; a personal page is created to represent a person. Other differences include these:

  • You need a personal page to have a business page, but you don't need a business page to have a personal page.

  • You can only have one personal page, but you can have an unlimited amount of business pages attached to your personal page.

  • Only one person can manage a personal page, but multiple people can manage a business page.

  • You can enable messaging on your Facebook page.

  • You can get your business page verified.

  • You have access to analytics with a business page.

  • You can run ads and promote posts with a business page.

Does It Cost Money To Have A Facebook Business Page?

It doesn't cost money to have a Facebook business page. So you won't have to expect a fee as you start building the page nor when you start maintaining it.

I Don't Have A Website - Can I Still Create A Business Page?

Absolutely! While having a website is great for any business, it isn't necessary if you just want to have a Facebook business page. So feel free to start building your platform and setting up a store there (but keep in mind that developing a website comes with many benefits, as well).

What's The Point Of Having A Business Page If I Already Have A Personal Page?

Because the business page benefits are too great to pass up! Unless you have a separate platform tracking your Facebook analytics, you won't be able to see the insights of your personal account. And when it comes to marketing, you won't know what's working and what isn't if you don't have access to the metrics.

Speaking Of Business Page Benefits - What Are They?

  • Analytics Access: as we mentioned before, only business pages have access to their insights.

  • Advertising Possibilities: Facebook's ads platform is outstanding, capable of pushing your content out to a much larger audience, and also only available to business pages.

  • Boost Post Possibilities: boosting your post to reach more people is another feature only available on business pages.

  • Page Verification: your business page can be verified, which increases your credibility and authority to your audience.

Now That We Know The Benefits - What Are The Disadvantages?

The main disadvantage? The time it takes to create a strategy, build your page, and maintain it. Your business page always has to remain updated or else you will see your page visits numbers start to drop. And by updated, we don't just mean posting on the platform and leaving: we also mean responding to comments and messages quickly and efficiently. People want to hear from you and interact with you.

Another disadvantage is that there is a lot of competition on Facebook. It's the most popular social media platform, so you're bound to find other businesses similar to your own. This is why the business features are so important to learn and use - so that you can give your brand an advantage by utilizing the tools available.
