How do I take better social media images

There are a couple different photography tricks you can use right away to up your game on social media We are going to talk about your grid and the four-foot rule. We recently listened to a podcast by social media examiner this week that inspired us to write this and tie in something we learned at the end of last year.

Your Grid

When you view a picture, there are different parts of the picture which catch our eyes. Those places are based on a grid as you can see in the picture below. It is like a square inside of your square, portrait, or landscape image.

Meet my kiddos stuffed panda. So cute!

At the four corners of the inner square are your focal points, which are the place you want the focus of an image to go. Before you take your next shot, use the directions we have outlines below so you can add the grid to your next photo.  If you already have you the grid on your phone skip this step.

How To Turn on Grid

The four-foot rule

I used to work in the restaurant industry and we had a similar four-foot rule. When a person came within four feet of you, you had to warmly greet that person, because they had entered into your personal space. This personal space can be applied to how we take images, not used to lure an unexpected person who comes within four feet to take a picture with you, but how you make the picture more intimate.  Take for example the selfie. Once people picked on those brave people who pioneered the selfie, now selfies are getting some of the best engagement. Take these two pictures for example.

The first picture is of a lonely stuffed animal on a table. The second picture is completely focused on the panda. A good funny caption for the second image could be “from the perspective of a stuffed animal panda”. Now take the next example of me at a holiday party. The caption of the picture could be, “spending some time around the holidays with my fitness family”. The second photo’s caption could be, “bringing my mom with me to meet my favorite fitness family”. Which sounds like you get to know me more?
