Which Platforms Should You Use as a Video Creator?

Video content is becoming more and more popular on social media. This can be seen in the creation of platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok. It can also be seen in Instagram's new upgraded features: Stories, IGTV, and Reels.

This is great - especially for video creators. We no longer have to limit ourselves to certain social media platforms (and, therefore, certain demographics) because we now have more options available to us.

So with all these new options, the next question is: Where should you post your content?

Most likely, you have already chosen your primary social media platform. But social media marketing works best if you have multiple platforms that you can post your media on - because the goal is wider reach, more engagement, and increased sales. So once you've mastered your strategy on one platform, progressing to another could only benefit your business.

That's why we have compiled three separate tracks on how you can best progress from each platform.

Already on YouTube?

If you're already on YouTube, you are off to a great start. Video content on social media platforms that normally provide image content can sometimes feel jarring (and repelling) to audiences. YouTube, however, is full of individuals who prefer videos over images.

Another platform of users who enjoy video content is Instagram. Instagram's features provide you with many different options to produce videos: through your regular feed, through Stories, through IGTV, and through Reels. When creating content for this platform, remember that most of these features prefer portrait styled videos, meaning you will have to edit the content you put out on YouTube before you repurpose it for Instagram.

After Facebook, whether you progress from LinkedIn or Twitter depends on your target audience. LinkedIn works well with YouTube, allowing you to post your YouTube video neatly into your feed. However, if you want to reach Gen Z, then you most likely won't reach them on LinkedIn. Therefore, Twitter should be your next step if you want to reach a younger audience.

Already on Instagram?

Instagram is another great platform to start on if you're a video creator. With all of their features, you will be able to post your content in many different categories, reaching many different people.

The best way to progress from Instagram is to start posting on YouTube. When you make this transition, remember that YouTube prefers landscape styled videos. While the platform allows you to post portrait styled videos, many users do not enjoy this particular orientation.

Facebook has less video features, but videos still perform very well on the platform. This is the next best step for you due to it being such an easy transition from Instagram. And an added bonus: since Facebook is such a popular platform, you have great potential to reach more people.

Already on Facebook?

Facebook is also a good place to start posting your video content, especially since it is such a popular platform worldwide. Starting on Facebook also means that you are most likely not trying to target Gen Z - meaning that the track from this primary platform is a little different from the previous tracks.

When you master your content strategy on Facebook, the best place to progress would be Instagram. While your audience will expand to include younger demographics, everything will stay pretty much the same. The features on both platforms are very similar, and the same demographics use both - making this transition simple and valuable.

After Instagram, YouTube is the best platform to progress to. While it requires different orientations for videos, the transition will be worth editing.

While reviewing the different tracks, you may have noticed that LinkedIn and Twitter were always the last platforms to progress to. We would like to state that this is not due to videos performing badly on these two platforms. So if your primary platform is either of them - then don't worry! Our advice would be to continue mastering your strategy on those platforms and then to choose a track above to follow.
