Get More YouTube Views: 7 Things You Need To Do
If you're looking to get more views on your YouTube videos, then you'll want to read this article. We'll teach you how to optimize your videos for better search engine ranking, so that you can get more exposure and reach a wider audience. We'll also reveals some tricks you can do to make your videos high quality and watch-worthy. So what are you waiting for? Read on to learn how to get more views on your YouTube videos.
1. Use The Right Keywords In Your Titles, Descriptions, And Tags
We've said this before: use the right keywords. But what does this really mean and how do you find the "right" keywords?
Finding keywords doesn't just mean using words that align with your brand or words you think your audience will search for. It also means finding words that you are likely to rank for.
For example: if you were to type "vanilla cake recipe" into the YouTube search engine, then you're likely going to see hundreds of thousands of videos pop up. However, if you type in "5-ingredient vegan and gluten-free vanilla cake recipe," a lot less videos will show up.
Notice the difference between the keywords? One is far more general, while the other is more specific.
As a small- to mid-sized business, you're going to show up higher on the search engine results page when you're more specific. Unfortunately, the top spots for the first keyword will be reserved for the most popular channels (big businesses).
All this to say: be specific but also take into consideration how many people are searching for the keyword. You don't want to use a keyword that no one is actually looking for. Once you have your keywords, include them to your YouTube video titles, descriptions, and tags. This will help YouTube's algorithms understand what your video is about, and they'll be more likely to show it to people who are searching for that keyword.
2. Make Sure Your Videos Are High Quality
Low quality videos aren't going to perform well on a platform like YouTube. So if you want more views, you have to make sure that your videos are well-produced and interesting.
Here are the tricks that we promised to help you make your videos high quality:
Get a good microphone. This will be a worthy investment! Good microphones will ensure your sound quality is pleasing to the ear by making your audio clear and crisp. Remember that no one wants to watch a video that sounds fuzzy!
Also purchase professional editing software (or think about hiring an editor). There are many good options out there, but we recommend Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Both of these options will allow you to create videos that your audience will find fun to watch.
Thumbnails are another important step in the process! We'll talk more about thumbnails later, but we will take this opportunity to stress that the thumbnail is the first thing your audience will see once they scroll through their search engine results page - so make sure you develop a graphic that catches the eye.
Add captions to your videos. Some people watch videos on mute and some people are deaf or hard of hearing, so having captions will ensure that they can still understand what your video is about.
Also, don't rely on the automatically generated captions that YouTube develops. These are often inaccurate and while (admittedly) they are sometimes funny, you don't want to appear unprofessional to your growing audience.
And finally, get good lighting. For more tips on this, click here.
3. Don't Create Videos That Are Long And Never Get To The Point
These videos are sure to see a large drop off rate. People have short attention spans, so it's important to make your videos as concise as possible. And while it is certainly possible for some long YouTube videos to receive a ton of views, it's not the norm.
And the added benefit of short YouTube videos? It keeps people wanting more!
If your short video was engaging enough, people will be interested in seeing more of your content, and might even visit your page. This means that your other videos will generate more views, as well.
So to practice what we just preached, we'll get to the point: don't ramble on for too long and aim for your videos to be around 2 minutes or less.
4. Use Engaging Thumbnail Images
We said we'd talk more about engaging thumbnails and we meant it!
Think of your thumbnail as a mini-poster for your video. It needs to be eye-catching, engaging, and force the viewer to feel excited/intrigued enough to learn more.
Here are some thumbnail tricks you can use:
Use vibrant colors that stand out on the platform.
Have text on the image.
Have people on the image.
Don't forget to leave white space!
Include your logo.
5. Collaborate With Other YouTube Creators
If this is possible for your business, then we definitely recommend.
This strategy will be beneficial for both creators, because it will allow you both to be exposed to an audience you otherwise would not have reached.
So who should you collaborate with and how should you reach out to them? We'll answer that!
There are two types of people you should collaborate with: the person who produces similar content to your own or the person who would benefit from your services/products. With the first type of person, you both can come up with fun ways to collaborate (for example, if you're an event planner, then you both can plan an event together). With the second type of person, you can offer your services/products and they can react to how much they like their results (for example, if you're an event planner, you can plan an event for them).
When reaching out, our most important tips are to be human and genuine. But here are some more specific tips so you feel more ready to reach out:
Use your professional email address/account
Introduce yourself, your business, and your products/services
Explain why you want to collaborate (make sure you provide a thoughtful compliment regarding their content - maybe even referencing a specific video so that they know you actually watch their videos)
Offer the collaboration as a solution for them (remember that people are more likely to do something if it benefits them. So, in this case, a solution would be to increase both of your views)
Include a link to your YouTube page and website
6. Make Use Of YouTube's Features
YouTube comes with a lot of really great features that can help a small creator grow on their platform. So make sure you take some time to become familiar with the platform so you can take advantage of all the opportunities on them!
A few features that we really recommend using so that you can increase your video views include the description link capability and the end screen card.
YouTube's description link capability allows creators to add links to other videos within their video descriptions. This means that when someone looks to learn more about the video, you can use that opportunity to direct them to another video that they might like. Maybe it's a video that you referenced in the video that they are already on or it's a video that relates to the topic - which ever it is, link it!
The end screen card is another feature we recommend using for every video. What is an end screen card? The last thing that appears on your video toward the end. You have probably seen it on other videos already, where a subscribe button pops up over the video content, or clickable thumbnails to other videos. You have probably even clicked on them!
If someone has watched your video all the way to the end, then they are very likely to continue watching your content. So to make it easier for them, just add these end screens and links.
7. Use Paid Promotion
Paid promotion is a sure way to get more views on your videos, especially when done right. So, if you're willing to spend some money, then you should!
You can either buy ads on Google or on YouTube. Both of these have the option to push your content out to a wider and broader audience, to generate video link clicks, and to increase the overall awareness of your brand.
