5 TikTok Growth Strategies for Small Businesses

5 tiktok growth strategies for small businesses

It’s time to take TikTok seriously! It is speedily becoming one of the most popular social media platforms out there, growing and growing (especially in Generation Z). And we want your small business to grow with it.

This is why we are compiling a list of TikTok growth strategies and TikTok tips for you to use as you venture into this new social network and find a place on it for your brand. So let’s get started!

Growth Strategies

1. Select The Correct Hashtags

The first thing you should know is that TikTok captions have a short character limit, comparable to Twitter. On this video platform, you are limited to just 150 characters. Therefore, the number of hashtags you can use are also restricted.

The second thing you should be aware of is that hashtags actually work, especially for trending hashtags that are not yet oversaturated with other content.

So what are the “correct” hashtags? Both popular and niche. Combine them!

Your niche hashtags shouldn’t be super competitive, and should use words that your audience would be interested in.

Are you a writer? Use #writertok or #writersoftiktok. Are you a restaurant owner? Create hashtags with your unique dishes.

Here are some popular hashtags that you can use to give your video an extra boost:

  • #foryou

  • #fyp

  • #tiktok

  • #video

You can also use trending hashtags if they relate to your brand or video. In fact, we encourage you to do this! Be sure to leap onto trends when they are still novel to the TikTok users, however.

2. Participate In Trends

Since we introduced the topic of using trending hashtags, we should also mention trends - and how exceptional they are at boosting your content.

Trends are constant on TikTok, and you can quickly discover what’s popular on the platform just by scrolling through your For You page. But, if you would like to know what’s trending more immediately, you can visit the discover page and the top trending hashtags will pop up (along with the top videos using that hashtag).

While your business might not be able to use and relate to all of them, you can still get creative and use some of them!

3. Post A Lot

Frequent posting on TikTok absolutely works. When you post a lot, you will see your number of followers increase. You will also see the views on your individual videos increase, too.

What does “frequent” mean? About 1 to 3 times per day.

But don’t freak out!

TikTok videos only have to be around 15 seconds long, and don’t even have to be perfectly created in order to do well with your audience. These videos can be quickly created and quickly posted, unlike videos on YouTube which would take longer to edit, cut, and produce and Instagram that encourages quality content over quantity.

4. Use New TikTok Effects

TikTok is constantly creating new effects to increase user entertainment. These can be filters (similar to the ones you see on Instagram and Snapchat), text effects like text-to-voice (that reads the text you put on your video), and timing effects (such as slowing down your video or speeding it up).

Videos that use new effects get pushed by the TikTok algorithm, similar to the way that trending hashtags get pushed.

To see the different effects, just click the Effects icon. You will see them split up into different categories: Trending, New, Interactive, Editing, Beauty, Funny, World, and Animal.

5. Post Short Content

The platform has recently allowed users to create videos up to three minutes long. Many creators and businesses are using this too their full advantage, posting story-times and showing the behind the scenes of their work.

However, we advise small businesses to stick to creating 15 second videos. Here are two reasons:

  • They are easier to create. While marketing is essential, so is your business. Creating shorter content allows you to still focus on perfecting your existing products and services.

  • People are more likely to watch more than once. TikTok will see that people are enjoying your content and give it a boost in the algorithm.
