How To Add Chapters To YouTube Video

Chapters are one of my favorite YouTube updates. Since YouTube is mainly a long-form video platform, chapters make it a lot easier for users to skim through content that they would normally have to watch all the way through.

This makes chapters good for users and for creators. It's easier for viewers to jump to the parts they want and it's also helpful for creators as it encourages more engagement with their videos.

Now let's get right into it (and you'll be happy to know that the steps are incredibly simple)!

Step One

Go to YouTube.

Step Two

Click your profile picture in the top right of the screen.

Step Three

Click YouTube Studio from the option dropdown.

Click Content from the lefthand menu.

Step Four

Click Content in the left-hand menu.

Click the video that you want to add chapters to.

Step Five

Click the title of the video that you want to add chapters to.

In the description, list time stamps.

Step Six

In the description, write the first time stamp 00:00 and then the title of what you want that chapter to be.

You can watch your video play on the right and jot down more time stamps in the description.

Step Seven

Write down timestamps to other important moments in your video. You can even watch the video play on the right hand column by clicking the play button

Click Save.

Step Eight

Click the save button in the top right.

Step Nine

Click the link below the video on the right to view your chapters!

Hover over the video to see your chapters!

Step Ten

Now when you hover over the video, you can see all the chapters that you created!
